Tramadol Hcl (Ultram)

What is tramadol hydrochloride?

Tramadol uses medication that affects the brain chemistry, to affect how you respond to pain, and is mainly used to alleviate moderate to severe pain. The active ingredients in tramadol are similar in composition to narcotic analgesics, and should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. As a pain reliever that can help to ease the withdrawal from strong opiates, recreational use of tramadol is limited. There are a number of side effects that you may experience with regular and proper use of the medication, but you can further minimize these effects by discussing them with your doctor and following their guidance.

What is tramadol used for?

Tramadol uses include pain management, injury recovery, coping with withdrawal from opiates, and for the treatment of acute pain that is moderate to severe. Talking to your physician about off label uses or mixing the drug with over the counter pain medication will ensure that you are doing what is best for your situation. It is also important to keep in mind that there are additional side effects that can be experienced if you either take tramadol for too long (excess of a few months) or in too high of a dose. Because of the side effects, tramadol recreational use is not usually a problem, but if you, or someone you know is addicted, consult with a physician for additional support.

Is tramadol an opiate?

Many people wonder, “Is tramadol an opiate?” The simple answer is no. Although the effects are similar, the pathways of pain relief are different. In this, the side effects and potential for tramadol recreational use or abuse are less likely than strong opiates can be. With that being said, there are a number of people with addictive personalities that do become addicted and need to seek professional medical assistance to be weaned off properly. Talk with you physician and pharmacist for more information on opiates, narcotics, and over the counter medications.

Tramadol recreational use and abuse

There are a number of serious negative side effects that make tramadol recreational use very dangerous - namely seizures. These side effects are probably more common with individuals that take the medication either too often, or they take too much at one time, and can in and of themselves be a deterrent of abusing the prescribed tramadol uses.

Do yourself a favor and don't take this! The withdrawals are terrible. I cannot believe doctors prescribe this like they do, as it's "non narcotic" they assume it's safer and don't have the FDA breathing down their neck about it. I have had chronic back pain for years due to a bulged disc, creating very painful shooting pains in my legs (sciatica). I take both hydrocodone and tramadol for the pain, 1 a day and 5 a day. If I run out of hydrocodone it's not a big deal other than being in pain.. However if I run out of tramadol I am screwed! Impossible to sleep and it feels like someone is raking my back muscles with a fork, while my entire body has spasms that jolt me all night. It's not just me either.. Google tramadol withdrawal. Whomever invented this garbage needs to be kicked in the nads!
